The Good, The Bad, The Movie Review!

Movies That I Love & Hate!

*This just my opinion, feel free to watch them all yourselves!*

(If you want to know more about a specific movie, just ask, I am sure I have seen it!)

                                                                CAPTAIN PHILIPS

If ever there was a story primed to receive the big-screen treatment it is the harrowing ordeal of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking of U.S. cargo ship Alabama by Somali pirates. When you throw in Oscar winner Tom Hanks as your cinematic hero and Oscar nominee Paul Greengrass ("The Bourne Supremacy" as director and combine them with edge-of-your seat/based-on-a-true-story action, you have one of the most satisfying movie-going experiences of the year. However, with all that said, I thought it was OKAY. Yes a lot of people loved it, it just was not my personal cup of tea. By no means was it a bad movie, just not my type! All in all men will love it!

                                                                     NEBRASKA

In Alexander Payne's landmark black-and-white comedy, a lonely son (Will Forte) takes his alcoholic father (Bruce Dern) on a doomed car trip from Montana to Nebraska to collect a Publisher's Clearinghouse windfall. Simple? Simply perfect thanks to Dern's gristly performance, Payne's shot-for-shot precision and writer Bob Nelson's humorous insight into the Midwestern heart of darkness. Nothing is left to chance but everything feels spontaneous in Payne’s American masterpiece. I had tears streaming down my cheeks at the end of this BEAUTIFUL movie. Basically to sum it all up, SPOILER, the father gets one of those fake letters "You won $1,000,000 just come here to collect it and pick a list of magazine subscriptions to recieve it!". Now a days we get those Lottery emails saying you won, just send money to someone in a different country and they will deposit $1,000,000 in your bank! LOL I always laugh. But in this movie the father isn't all there anymore. He wants to go claim his prize. During this time he travels to a city he grew up in. They find out he is going to be a "Millionaire" and the vultures swoop in! The son is always sticking up for him when it comes to the "friends" who just want a piece of the pie. The small town finds out that this was all a sham and a select few make fun of him. In the end they travel to where he is supposed to collect the money and he finds out it is fake. You find out he just wanted the money to leave his sons with when he dies. This movie is so sweet and the end just kills me. This is a must see!!!

                                                                THE CONJURING

There have been far, far too many exorcism movies in the past decade -- they've become so disposable that even "The Last Exorcism" got a sequel (Come on! It was called "The Last Exorcism!") -- and most of them have been horror-ible (sorry). It's all the more reason "The Conjuring" was such a welcome breath of fresh air/pure terror, a highly original, often understated shocker that like many of the all-time best films in its genre, never revealed too much and sustained a bone-chilling mystery that kept us on the edge of our seats. Oh, and that doll. This wasn't only the scariest movie of it's year, it was among the very best.

                                                                       BLACKFISH

One Southern California mother's piercing documentary about Sea World and Shamu turns into an explosive expose about corporate malfeasance and the fate of the six-ton serial killer whale Tilikum. Gabriela Cowperthwaite created the movie that Sea World doesn’t want us to see -- and launched the #FreeTilly movement. "Blackfish" joins the American documentary renaissance with an edge-of-your-seat feature as compelling, shocking, and revealing! I watched this with my husband and we just couldn't get enough. Anyone who ever wanted to visit seaworld and watches this will most likely change
their minds! Between the treatment of the whales, the deaths of the trainers, and the unwillingness to keep mom's with their babies, family with family, and using areas far too small for a whale to live and be comfortable, this will make you sickened!! I urge EVERYONE to watch this, please do not have your childen see at a young age! This is a beautiful documentary!

                                                                        FROZEN

Between the catchy songs performed by killer voices -- a special tip of the hat for Idina Menzel and the surprisingly fantastic Kristen Bell -- and the ridiculously adorable faces of the current Disney era, you'd be hard-pressed to dislike this animated fairy tale. "Frozen" has the makings of a "Little Mermaid"-style classic, but with an even more modern, feminist twist. After all, the main moral of the story has nothing to do with sweet Anna falling for the woodsy Kristoff, but rather the love of family and sisterhood. We watched this with my daughter who is 5 and my son who is 10. My son and any boy for that matter, that I have come across, really doesn't like this. BUT this is definitely a favorite of my daughter and every other little girl I know. Kids love this and love all the products that came out after it. I actually had to buy my daughter the blanket just last month! Top pick for little girls!

                                                              THE LONE RANGER

The Lone Ranger may have been wildly popular in the 30's and 40's thanks to his radio and TV shows, but last we checked, that was a long time ago. Still, masked heroes do appear to be the in thing these days and if there's one thing we've learned over the past decade, it's that Johnny Depp can always be trusted to turn in a performance that is at least interesting. Yes I will admit that Mr. Depp is a great actor and I love most of his movies, but this movie was crap. I just didn't like anything about it. It did not interest me and sorry to say my kids DID NOT sit through this! I know when my kids love a movie, they are glued to the t.v. and DO NOT TALK. During this movie they didn't stop talking, leaving the room and telling me to CHANGE THE CHANNEL!! This was a total bust. I am still mad at myself for spending good money on this FLUNK!

                                                                THE INTERNSHIP

Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn have individually made some decent films since 2005's "Wedding Crashers," but neither has ever fully lived up the the high bar that film set in kicking off the R-rated comedy boom. With "The Internship," though, not only are they reuniting for a story about a couple of 40-somethings who become interns at a youth-oriented internet startup, they are also promoting Will Ferrell — who had an epic cameo in "Wedding Crashers" — to full-fledged co-star. Oh I had so many laughs during this movie. I very much enjoyed every bit of it. I am known for buying movies with these two characters in them, and this is why I keep doing it! Owen and Vince did it again, LOVING this!

                                                             A HAUNTED HOUSE

In an outrageous send up of the Paranormal Activity movies, The Devil Inside and other “found footage” movies, A Haunted House features young couple Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) who have just moved in to their dream house. As they settle in, they quickly find they’re not alone. But it’s not the house that’s haunted, it’s Malcolm’s girlfriend who is possessed by a demon. Malcolm hires everyone from a priest to modern day ghostbusters to rid her of this unwelcome intruder, determined not to let the evil spirit ruin his relationship… or, more importantly, his sex life. This movie is LOL worthy! I had to of course not drink anything or else it would have come out of my nose! I love comedies like this, I must say I wait every year for one to come out. Plus the best part is FINALLY the Wayan's brothers finally did another crazy funny movie!

                                                                          MAMA
Annabel and Lucas are faced with the challenge of raising his young nieces that were left alone in the forest for 5 years... but how alone were they????
A supernatural thriller that tells the haunting tale of two little girls who disappeared into the woods the day that their mother was murdered. When they are rescued years later and begin a new life, they find that someone or something still wants to come tuck them in at night. Oh my goodness this movie had me at the edge of my seat! First I was so scared when they first introduced the children to us. Then you are terrified of these kids! After that you begin to feel for this little ones, even if they are a little crazy! Oh and the ending was so intense! I really loved this movie! I could watch it again and again!

                                         HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS

It's like an adult version of the children's fable, with loads of intense action sequences showing demonic witches preying on the townsfolk, with loads of blood, decapitation, dismemberment, and one man walking into a bar (drunk) whom shockingly explodes with gore splattering everywhere. The mercenaries lead by Hansel & Gretel use advanced, powerful weaponry such as gating guns, missile launchers, and shotguns in combat, while the witches transform into frightening creatures which will scare younger viewers. It's a major ironic twist of the fairy tale, similar to the 2012 movie "Snow White & The Huntsman".  I thought it was a rather witty and exciting take on the original, and the special effects are surprisingly great. However, parents, you all should let your children pass on this one, because it's rated R for a reason. Mature 16 year old kids should handle it.

                                                                 IDENTITY THIEF
There have been many difference of opinions on this flick. My opinion is it was LOL funny with an ALL-STAR cast! Basically a mild-mannered businessman learns his identity has been stolen, he hits the road in an attempt to foil the thief, a deceptively harmless-looking woman. In some ways, Identity Thief is a raunchier variation on another recent odd-couple road pic: Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogen as overbearing mom and nebbish son in "The Guilt Trip."  I think McCarthy did her best comedy performance I've seen! She is by far my favorite actress and I will watch ANY movie she is in!

MORE MOVIES TO COME! STAY TUNED!!!!
